If you've just upgraded to IOS-7, you'll find that many functions have changed. One that I use often is a 'force-close' of applications I'm not using, as a way to conserve battery life.
To force-close apps in IOS-7, double-click the home button as usual, and - now you'll see a "card" displayed for each app that is running. The cards are very useful since they give you a little screenshot of the app - not just an icon. You can page through the apps left to right to select one you want to go to.
Just swipe UP on the app card, and bingo - you've closed the app. Like most things in IOS, its really easy once you know how.
